"Why do the white gulls call?"
Roll credits for Return of the King. Even after several times through all of these, I still get misty for Denethor's death scene, the farewell at the Grey Havens. I would still edit out almost all of Gimli's annoying comic relief scenes (especially the drinking contest and any line involving "tossing"). I still think these films _rock_.

I honestly would do this again in a year or so with 2 new rules: dark room and no other projects in hand. More like watching them in the theater. The movies stood up well.
There were a couple moments where the CG didn't work for me (opening battle scene with Sauron - the close-up elements seemed fakey and the first appearance of the Wargs in Two Towers). I also agree with your comments. I just loved the music for all three films - especially the three closing theme songs by Enya, Emiliana Torrini & Annie Lennox.
